Text Messaging Privacy Notice

Descartes Customer Engagement demo messages

Last updated: 30 September 2026

This notice explains how The Descartes Systems Group Inc. ("Descartes", "we", "us") handles your mobile number when you sign up to receive demo messages on the Descartes Customer Engagement demo site. It covers the demo messages however you choose to receive them — by SMS or RCS, or on WhatsApp. It supplements our General Privacy Policy. Where the two differ on those messages, this notice applies.

What this programme is

When you enter your mobile number on the demo site and agree to receive messages, we send you a short series of sample delivery notifications. They show how businesses use Descartes to keep their customers updated during a delivery, for example "your order is on its way" or "your order has been delivered". The messages are demonstrations only. They aren't about a real order, and they aren't marketing.

  • Programme name: Descartes Customer Engagement Demo
  • Message types: sample delivery notifications, and replies to STOP or HELP
  • Frequency: up to 7 messages per demo session
  • Channels: SMS, or RCS where your phone and carrier support it. If you choose WhatsApp instead, the messages are sent there and the rest of this notice applies to them in the same way.
  • Cost: message and data rates may apply
  • Opting out: reply STOP at any time. Reply HELP for help.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

What we collect

  • Your mobile phone number.
  • A record of your consent: the date and time, the page where you gave it, and the wording you agreed to.
  • Delivery records for the messages we send, such as whether they were delivered or read.
  • Any replies you send, including STOP and HELP.

You don't have to give us your name or any other information to take part. A mobile number on its own is enough.

How we use it

We use this information only to:

  • send you the demo messages you asked for
  • act on STOP and HELP replies
  • check that messages were delivered and fix delivery problems

We don't use your number for marketing, and we don't add it to any marketing list.

Sharing

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

To deliver the messages, we use a messaging provider (Twilio Inc.) and the mobile carriers that carry the messages. If you choose WhatsApp, the message is delivered through WhatsApp, a Meta Platforms, Inc. service, instead of your mobile carrier. They process your number only to deliver messages on our behalf. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We delete your mobile number, consent record and message history 30 days after you sign up.

If you reply STOP, we keep a record of that opt-out so that this programme never messages that number again.

Security

We protect this information with the same safeguards described in our General Privacy Policy.

Your choices and rights

You can stop messages at any time by replying STOP. To ask about or delete the information we hold, contact our Data Protection Officer — see "Contacting the Data Protection Officer" in our General Privacy Policy. You may have further rights depending on where you live, which that policy also describes.

Changes

If we change this notice, we'll update the date at the top.
